the phrase AI uses most that you never want to see again.

mine is that phrase about noting something. it appears in at least 40% of AI outputs I’ve read this year. I have started editing it out on reflex before I read what follows.

at the end of the day and “in today’s shifting environment” appear so often together in the same paragraph that I now read them as a single phrase.

that word about going deep into something. I don’t know why AI loves this phrase but it is committed to doing it. into everything. all the time. without rest.

the one that gets me is “I hope this helps!” at the end of a response that clearly did not help and the AI knows it did not help because I have been asking follow-up questions for six exchanges.

“as an AI language model, I want to clarify that…”

this one hits different because of the specific situation in which it appears. it appears when you’ve asked a question the AI has decided is borderline. it doesn’t say no. it doesn’t say yes. it says “as an AI language model” and then issues a disclaimer that takes longer to read than the answer would have.

the phrase has become a tell. when I see it I know the next two paragraphs will contain neither the answer I asked for nor a clear refusal. just a thorough explanation of why the question is complicated.

honourable mention: “certainly!” as an opener. the AI has not done what I asked yet. it cannot be certain. and yet.

certainly! is the one that made me start keeping a list. the cheerfulness before any assistance has been rendered is specific and consistent.
