AI gave me a recipe. I made it. Here is how that went.
asked Claude to give me a weeknight dinner recipe using what I had in my fridge. I described the ingredients. it gave me a confident, well-formatted recipe with cooking times and everything. I made it. here is my report.
I have had this experience and I need you to tell me the full story immediately.
the confident cooking times are the part that gets me every time. it says “cook for 12 minutes” like it has any idea what my pan is like.
mine told me to “season to taste” four separate times in the same recipe. at a certain point that’s not a recipe, that’s just vibes.
ok so.
the recipe was for a pasta dish. looked fine. coherent. listed ingredients I had confirmed were in my fridge.
step 3 asked me to add “a splash of white wine.” I did not say I had white wine. I did not have white wine. the recipe had invented an ingredient.
step 5 said “fold in the goat cheese until just combined.” I also did not say I had goat cheese. I do not usually have goat cheese. the recipe had invented a second ingredient.
by this point I was fully committed and had no goat cheese. I used cream cheese. it was fine. maybe better than goat cheese would have been.
the dish was edible. I would say a 6 out of 10. the AI was confident about every part of it including the parts it made up. I respect that.
this is the most relatable AI experience I have read. the quiet invention of ingredients you did not mention is so specific and so accurate.
