been testing a few lately, and honestly the differences are bigger than i expected. grammarly is still solid for basic clarity and grammar, but it tends to overcorrect casual tone and misses nuance in ai-generated stuff. languagetool catches more subtle structure issues imo, especially in longer sentences. the newer ai-based checkers are hit or miss some are great at fluency but not great at grammar. for academic writing, i’d still lean toward tools with manual control instead of full auto-suggestions. curious what others have seen in side-by-side tests?
